Terms & Conditions
Terms & Conditions for Parents/Students
Key Points:
- There is no contractual obligation to complete a specific number of lessons. You have the flexibility to terminate the tuition at any time and will only be required to pay for the lessons given by the tutor. Please note that there are no free lessons, and you will be billed for every lesson provided by the tutor.
- A 50% commission of the first month’s fees will be charged to the tutor, but the payment will be collected from you. No additional charges will be levied.
Tutor Profiles a) 1to1HomeTutor strives for accuracy in tutor descriptions. However, we cannot guarantee that the tutor’s description is entirely accurate, complete, reliable, current, or error-free. b) The tutor database on 1to1HomeTutor’s website is provided as is, without any warranties or guarantees. c) You are responsible for verifying the tutor’s credentials and certificates during the first lesson if the scanned copies are not available on our site. It is your responsibility to ensure the tutor’s credentials and qualifications are satisfactory.
Availability of Preferred Tutors a) 1to1HomeTutor does not guarantee the assignment of your preferred tutor(s) as it depends on their availability. b) Even if the tutor has indicated availability in their online schedule for selected timeslots, it does not guarantee the assignment of your preferred tutor(s).
Place of Tuition a) By default, the assigned tutor will teach at the client’s residence unless otherwise specified by you. You are required to provide a suitable environment for the lessons to take place.
Tuition Rates a) The rates displayed on our website are based on recent quotations from tutors and should serve as a guide. Tutors may charge different rates based on their qualifications and experience. b) The rates provided are generally accurate, as they are based on current market rates and are regularly reviewed. c) These rates are non-negotiable for the first month. d) 1to1HomeTutor reserves the right to amend the rates at any time. e) The rates are fixed for the first month. After the initial month, rates can be re-negotiated. f) In the event that the tutor attempts to change the tuition rates, please notify 1to1HomeTutor immediately.
Performance and Changing of Tutor a) There is no obligation or contract to complete a specific number of lessons. b) While the tutor is expected to help improve the student’s grades, 1to1HomeTutor cannot guarantee improvements, as external factors beyond our control may influence academic outcomes. c) Should you wish to change your tutor for any reason, you may do so without incurring any additional charges. However, you will be required to pay for the lessons given prior to termination.
Payment Information a) 1to1HomeTutor charges a commission to the tutor, equivalent to 50% of the fees for the first month or 50% of the lessons given, in case the service is terminated before completing the first month. b) The commission charges will be collected from you, and an invoice will be issued via hand/mail/email. You have a two-week payment window from the date of the invoice. c) Payment for the tuition commission can be made via ATM transfer, Internet Banking, Cheque, or Cash. The invoice will contain detailed payment instructions and will be sent to you via email or post.
Short-term Tuition a) We offer tutors for short-term assignments (12 lessons or less), such as test preparation, essay writing, or presentations. b) For short-term tuition, the agency commission will be charged to you based on a case-by-case agreement. As a guideline, the commission amount is usually equivalent to 2 lesson fees of 1.5 hours (Hourly rate x 3 hours). c) This arrangement is made to ensure that tutors’ total earnings are not significantly reduced if the agency commission is deducted, with no future lessons to recoup this amount. For further information, please contact us.
Terms & Conditions For Tutors
Key Points:
- 1to1HomeTutor will charge a commission of 50% of the first month’s fees (typically the first 4, 8, 12 lessons’ fees) from you for each successful assignment. The commission will be collected from the client. You will conduct lessons at the location designated by the student/parent.
- It is essential to provide accurate information regarding your qualifications, and you may be asked to present your certificates during the first lesson.
- By registering with our agency, you confirm that you do not have any criminal records and are not facing charges in a court of law in Singapore, excluding parking offenses.
- Your basic profile will be displayed on our ‘Search Tutors’ page, allowing parents to shortlist potential tutors. Only limited information will be shown, such as your name, age, gender, schools attended, experience, commitment, and photo. Personal details such as your phone number, email, and address will not be displayed. If you wish to unsubscribe or remove your details, please contact us promptly.
Registration Registering as a tutor with 1to1HomeTutor is free. The minimum age requirement is 18 years, and you must be a resident of Singapore. Please note that 1to1HomeTutor reserves the right to reject any application. You are solely responsible for all content you post, upload, email, or make available via 1to1HomeTutor’s website, including text, photographs, graphics, and messages. You are advised to exercise caution and ensure that all content adheres to legal and ethical guidelines. The certificates you upload during the registration process are solely for the administrator’s verification purposes and will not be shared with parents or any third party.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and password. You agree to accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account or password.
1to1HomeTutor cannot be held liable for any loss or damage arising from your registration as a tutor. We reserve the right to edit or remove content from your tutor account and terminate accounts as deemed necessary. Furthermore, 1to1HomeTutor is not liable for any unforeseen circumstances that may arise from tutoring assignments.
Contacting You for Assignments You may receive calls or SMS broadcasts regarding new assignments and first lesson reminders. However, please note that we cannot guarantee that you will receive SMS broadcasts, as it depends on your profile and the preferences of the clients.
Responding to an SMS broadcast does not guarantee selection for the assignment. If you are shortlisted, we will contact you for further discussion. If you are not selected, we are not obligated to contact you.
First Lesson and Assignment Prior to the first lesson, you are expected to contact the client to confirm the details of the lesson. Failure to attend the first lesson without proper notification to the client, or any other actions on your part that lead to the cancellation of the assignment, may result in the termination of your tutor account. Such cases will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
The client has the right to terminate the tuition at any time. You will be entitled to receive payment for the lessons already rendered, unless the client expresses dissatisfaction with the lesson.
Commission The tuition fees for the first month are fixed, and no negotiation is permitted after they have been set. 1to1HomeTutor will collect a commission equivalent to 50% of the first month’s fees. The collection will occur at the end of the second week of lessons. The exact timing of the collection will depend on the frequency of the tuition assignment (e.g., completion of 4, 8, or 12 lessons). If lessons are postponed within the first four weeks, the postponed lessons will not be counted towards the commission. For example, if there are 8 lessons scheduled over 4 weeks and one lesson is postponed by the client, 1to1HomeTutor will still collect the commission based on 8 lessons, not 7. Changes to the frequency of lessons within the first month or in subsequent months will impact the commission collection. The commission adjustment will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Any attempts to evade commission payment or unreasonable demands will result in the termination of your account. 1to1HomeTutor does not collect any upfront payment from clients, and installment plans are not permitted.
Cancellation by Tutor or Client Due to Tutor’s Fault: If you, as the tutor, cancel the assignment during the first month of tuition, you will still be responsible for paying the commission. The commission will be equivalent to 50% of the first 4, 8, 12, or 16 lessons, as stated in the confirmation SMS. Any surplus beyond the initial 50% of the tuition fees will be paid to you.
Cancellation by Client (No Fault of Tutor): If the client cancels the assignment during the first month of tuition, the tuition fees will be collected by the agency and divided equally between the agency and the tutor.
Conduct of Tutor
While 1to1HomeTutor does not have legal jurisdiction over tutor conduct, certain penalties may be imposed for poor conduct. Key areas to emphasize:
Punctuality: If the client frequently complains about your tardiness or early departures before completing the lesson, 1to1HomeTutor reserves the right to terminate the assignment or close your tutor account.
‘No-shows’: Failing to attend a lesson without informing the client through a phone call or in-person communication is considered a severe offense. Account closure may result from such incidents. SMS or emails alone are not considered sufficient means of notification.
Professionalism: Tutors must maintain focus and concentration during lessons. Engaging in personal activities, such as texting or chatting, that distract from the lesson may result in warnings or termination of the assignment or tutor account by 1to1HomeTutor.
Dress Code: Please dress appropriately during lessons as the client has the right to reject a tutor based on inappropriate attire.
1to1HomeTutor strives to be fair to tutors. Any complaints lodged against tutors will be investigated, and we will seek clarifications from tutors to allow them to defend themselves.
